TNA Genesis 2010 Countdown!! Slam Wrestling!!

Hello again everyone,

Welcome to this special edition of ENCORE blogs. In this edition we will countdown to TNA's Genesis pay per view LIVE tonight ONLY on pay per view. Here is what you can expect to see!!

Special thanks to Slam Wrestling for their exclusive coverage of this countdown!!

Dress it up all you want, but the start of 2010's PPV season for TNA is much the same the way 2009 started - many gimmicks, matches announced late and resulting confusion for PPV buyers.

Genesis may seem like the dawn of a new era for TNA, but that's far from the truth - they still have yet to fix their biggest revenue streams, those being PPV buys and taking their act completely on the road. Has TV done anything to step up the buyrate? Certainly not if you look at the fact that the main event was already given away for free once, and that so many TV angles aren't being followed up on PPV. It's almost as if the two are separate entities.

The lineup is highlighted of course, by what should still be an incredible main event, but also is looking two more surprises square in the eye.

Here's what's going down at Genesis.

Desmond Wolfe vs. The Pope

Jon's Pick

This could be the show stealer if they're given time. Wolfe and Dinero have all the talent to pull off a great match in the ring. Wolfe needs to rebound after his loss to Pope, so expect that here.

Sean Morley vs. Daniels

Jon's Pick

The premise behind this match is as bad as a WWE Films project. Morley re-inventing his character into a director role means that there's another "pornstar" on the way, likely in a re-match after Daniels takes the victory here.

TNA X Division Title Match

(C) Amazing Red vs. Opponent to be Announced That Night

Jon's Pick

This is the second official surprise of the night, and I don't think it will be Orlando Jordan. I'm expecting a debut here, potentially from Brian Kendrick or Paul London (okay, they'd be returns but you get what I'm saying), but I also wouldn't be surprised if it's Homicide. Either way, Red's losing the belt.

TNA Knockouts Title Match

Best of 3 Falls

Tara vs. (C) ODB

Jon's Pick

I have yet to get excited about this feud, and unless Tara loses, it's going to continue. Thus, I'll hope for ODB to win, and I'll go out on a limb and say that a debuting Knockout costs Tara the victory. Hmm... wonder what Jazz has been up to?

THEE CO-MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING...

TNA World Tag Team Title Match

Matt Morgan & Hernandez vs. (C) The British Invasion

Jon's Pick

I'm sorry, I'm just not buying into Morgan and Hot Stuff as a tag team. The Brits win.

Bobby Lashley vs. Abyss

Jon's Pick

Over before it starts. Lashley wins.

Scott Hall & Kevin Nash vs. Beer Money

Jon's Pick

Bad booking at its finest. Yes TNA, the first thing you should do with Hall and Nash is put them over your hottest tag team. I'm thinking Eric Bischoff makes it 3 on 2, adding Sean Waltman to the mix to give The Wolfpack Band the advantage and win.

SATURDAY JANUARY 23rd, 2009

THEE MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING...

TNA World Heavyweight Title Match

Angle’s Last Shot at AJ’s World Title in 2010

Kurt Angle vs. (C) AJ Styles

Jon's Pick

The stipulation added Thursday that if Angle doesn't win, he doesn't get another shot until the end of 2010 or until AJ drops the belt, would seem to indicate Kurt winning; but I have a sneaking suspicion that Samoa Joe will cash in his title shot and beat AJ after what should be a 25-minute match to allow Angle vs. Joe again. By the end of the night, Joe's the champ.

Mystery Talent Debuting Tonight

Jon's Pick

Hey don't blame me for this being so high -- TNA listed this second on their PPV rundown. There's a sneaking suspicion in my mind that TNA was somehow able to sign Bryan Danielson away from WWE, and part of me wouldn't be surprised at all if that happened. Realistically though, this will be Mr. Anderson's (re-)debut in TNA.

What a night it will prove to be. We can confirm that TNA has returned to the 4 sided ring, they will have a new stage set and what BIG name has signed and will debut tonight?? All this and more will be answered very soon. Join King Jay Entertainment tonight at around 11:45pm EST for all the results and fallouts from the night that was!!
