Ian Loveland vs. Yves Jabouin

Round 1

A rowdy crowd cheers for our first bout. Loveland chases with lunging punches, but Jabouin pushes him away. Loveland charges again but comes up short. Loveland tries another lunging right that misses. Jabouin catches him with a spinning back kick to the gut on the next attempt. Loveland charges and clinches, but Jabouin shoves him away, and we reset. The crowd wants some action. Jabouin lands a nice side kick, but Loveland answers with some dirty boxing. Jabouin throws another kick, but Loveland catches it and dumps him to the mat. Loveland works from half guard as Jabouin pulls him close. Loveland postures for better position, but Jabouin ties him up. Loveland briefly goes to his feet and delivers a few punches before returning to half guard. Loveland grabs an arm and looks for a submission, but Jabouin easily shakes him off. Loveland postures to his knees to deliver some punches and elbows, but the ref calls for a timeout. He wants an errant stitch cut from Loveland's glove. On the restart, Jabouin lands a nice low kick. Loveland moves in with winging punches and resets. Loveland just misses with a front kick. Jabouin answers with a nice kick to the ribs. Loveland moves in with a straight right, and they reset. Loveland blitzes again and partially connects on a right. Jabouin lands a nice low-kick/right hook combo. Jabouin just misses a high kick and then blasts Loveland with a right hook to the face. He follows with a flying knee before Loveland catches him and ties up the action for recovery time. The final punch was the round's most effective, but Loveland did enough damage early to narrowly win the round, 10-9.

Round 2

Loveland shoots in immediately and works the fight to the floor. Working in side control briefly, but Jabouin quickly transitions out and to the top. He thinks briefly about a guillotine but is forced to let go and set up on top. Loveland rolls deftly for an armbar, but ultimately uses it as a sweep back to the top. He can't capitalize after a little time there, so they stand and reset. Jabouin takes the center on the restart. A kick is blocked, and a punch comes up just short. Jabouin lands a spinning kick to the gut. Halfway in. Another spinning kick catches the cup, and we have a brief break. Jabouin again on the center of the cage to restart, and the pace has slowed after a highlight-filled first. Loveland ducks in for a takedown, but Jabouin does an excellent job of first controlling the neck, then moving back to his feet. He does catch a knee on the exit, but he appears OK. Loveland finally comes alive in the final minute, but it's mostly single strikes. He shoots again, but this one is half-hearted at best. Jabouin digs to the body. Jabouin scores a late takedown and secures the round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.

Round 3

Both fighter looking to strike early, but neither overcommitting in the early going. Jabouin ducks a punch and lands a takedown, but the two pop immediately back to the feet. Tentative third frame. Both fighters look to have enough energy to compete, though Jabouin is the bouncier opponent. Jabouin pushes in again but is shoved away by Loveland. Jabouin lands a few creative strikes. A little tape is loose on his glove, but it's unnoticed. Lovelan tries to work the fight to the floor, but Jabouin simply pushes him away. Halfway in. The boos are coming now from the crowd, who want action. Loveland seems to be trying to time a counter-takedown, and Jabouin is likely earning him points on the judges' cards. Jabouin kicks to the body, and it slows Loveland even more. Jabouin lands another spinning kick to the body, and a punch comes up just short. Jabouin tries for a takedown, but Loveland braces himself and moves right back to the feet. Firefight in burst over the final 30 seconds, but it's Jabouin that gets the best of it. Close round, but Jabouin was the aggressor throughout and takes the round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9, as well as the fight, 29-28.

Felipe Arantes vs. Yuri Alcantara

Round 1

Referee Mario Yamasaki in the cage for this featherweight fight. Alcantara in the csuthpaw stance and opens with a high kick that's blocked. Arantes retreating and looking to return fire, Alcantara swarms with punches against the cage, but Arantes escapes unharmed. Arantes sneaks in a spinning kick. Big overhand left sneaks through for Alcantara. Alcantara continues to hold the center as Arantes backs away. Alcantara catches an Arantes kick and puts the fight on the floor, where he sets up in his opponent's guard. Arantes tries to wiggle free underneath, but Alcantara advances to half-mount. Arantes lands a stiff punch from the bottom, but Alcantara lands one from top and keeps control. Alcantara postures and lands several short punches, but he has to switch to defense when Arantes grabs a leg. Alcantara wisely pulls away and pushes back to the top, securing a half0-mount. Blood on the right eye of Arantes, but Yamasaki wants more action and stands them up. Arantes pushed forward in the closing seconds, but he can't find range. A glitzy flying kick glances off Alcantara's head, and MMAjunkie.com awards him the opening frame, 10-9.

Round 2

Alcantara takes the center again, and the two exchange. Arantes lands an early high kick. Alcantara extremely calm as he stalks. Arantes moving and bouncing a little more. However, Alcantara ducks down and drives him to the canvas. Arantes kicks his legs high, but Alcantara postures and lands a big punch as he moves back in. Alcantara finally move past the guard and into side control. He pauses and then pushes quickly into mount. Two minutes in. Alcantara patient on top. He steps over the shoulder with a leg but comes up empty and has to stand. Arantes can't follow, but he earns a reprieve from a stand-up. Arantes has a high kick blocked. The pace slows as Alcantara stalks. Arantes still very lively, and he peppers the leg. Alcantara paws the jab, trying to find range. He has to move through a knee to close the distance, and he takes the fight down again. Arantes' legs are crossed on the mat, and Alcantara looks to want to attack, but he can't. ROund ends there, and MMAjunkie.com sees it for Alcantara, 10-9.

Round 3

Arantes still looks lively, but he's quickly brought to the floor after a kick, and Alcantara takes the back. However, Arantes is fine in defense and quickly spins in to set up in the guard. Arantes postures and lands a few punches, as Alcantara olds a closed guard and appears content to stay on his back. Arantes moves away and lands a big punch coming back in. He tries to repeat and is nearly caught in an armbar. Alcantara now active with his legs, looking to do something, but it's not there, and he quickly reverts to the resting strategy. Yamasaki calls for a stand-up with nothing happening. Arantes tries to restart quickly with a flying knee, but Alcantara catches it and moves the fight to the floor again. However, he's on top this time. Alcantara does work on top, and he moves into half-mount. Boos come down as Alcantara remains mildly active, at best. It's another standup. Arantes lands a right hand on the restart, and Alcantara ducks under for a single-leg, taking the fight to the floor. Arantes pulls his right leg over the shoulder, but he's out of time. MMAjunkie.com sees the final round for Arantes, 10-9, but gives Alcantara a 29-28 win. A clean sweep wouldn't be shocking, either.

Erick Silva vs. Luis Ramos

Round 1

Referee Herb Dean in the cage. Silva touches gloves, then backs well away before pushing in. He's met with a Ramos flurry and backs up. Silva shuffles his feet and just misses with a left hand. A big right hand follows, and Ramos is floored. Ramos somehow lifts his head, but six more shots leave Dean no choice but to call it.

Jonny Eduardo vs. Rafael Assuncao

Round 1

Referee Marc Goddard in charge. Assuncao strikes first with a leg kick. Eduardo comfortable but not moving forward just yet. Assuncao holds the center early. Assuncao moves in and gets clipped with a counter right, but he backs away and resets. Assuncao lands a crisp straight of his own. Very tentative pace early. Assuncao misses on a front kick. Assuncao continues to kick low, but Edaurdo looks to be settling in and trying to counter over the top. Assuncao rushes in from range and latches onto a leg. Eduardo defends as he backs up to the cage. Assuncao continues to press and does earn the takedown. Eduardo works from a closed guard. Assuncao postures and scores with a few short elbows, but the action is relatively moderate. Eduardo refuses to break the guard. Goddard inches in and finally calls for a restart. One minute left. Eduardo misses a flashy spinning kick. Assuncao gives a little Bruce Lee look as he misses a spinning punch. Both fighters miss again in the final seconds, and MMAjunkie.com gives the opening round to Assuncao, 10-9.

Round 2

Eduardo takes the center and looks to be a little more determined. The two clinch up and briefly hit the deck but pop quickly back to their feet. Assuncao tries to work to the back from the standing position, and Eduardo is forced to defend the advance against the cage. Assuncao finally just drives a knee to the body and then backs away. Eduardo lands a crisp kick top the body, but he needs to up the output. Assuncao ducks in, but Eduardo feels it and sprawls, backing up to the cage as he defends. THe two lock up in the clinch, but there's nothing there. They finally separate from the stalemate, and the crowd urges them to pick up the pace. Both fighters trade punches and knees, but Assuncao slips quickly to the back and earns a nifty trip. Eduardo tries to recover, but Assuncao is on his back. Assuncao works both hooks in and tries for a rear-naked choke. Won't have enough time to finish, but the late action certainly secures him the round, 10-9.

Round 3

Eduardo needs a finish, and he comes out swinging. But it's Assuncao who lands best in an initial flurry. Both fighters look content to trade in the early going, and Assuncao is showing some really crisp striking, as he avoids Eduardo's long reach and fires back with crisp countershots. Eduardo stalking, but he's having a hard time tracking Assuncao down.Eduardo cuts off the cage and begs Assuncao to come in. He does, moving the fight to the floor and attacking Eduardo's leg while defending his own. Assuncao looks comfortable with Eduardo's legs grapevined around his left leg, and he punches away from a standing position. Eduardo is warned a few times for holding Assuncao's right glove. He's warned again seconds later for grabbing the fence. Assuncao is punching, but Goddard decides it's not enough and stands them up. Less than a minute. Eduardo still hunting, but Assuncao doing a fantastic job of managing the distance. Assuncao slips on a kick, and the crowd goes nuts, but he points to the floor to show it wasn't a knockdown. Fight ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie.com will also give the third to Assuncao, giving him the round, 30-27.

David Mitchell
vs. Paulo Thiago

Round 1


Referee Mario Yamasaki in charge. Crowd is electric. Patient opening before both fighters trade in the pocket. Chants in the building are deafening. Still, patient work from both. Mitchell smiles as he moves in, but Thiago ducks under, brings the fight to the floor and sets up in side control. Thiago patient on top as he looks to attack the left arm. Thiago tries to advance to mount, but Mitchell has good defense, and Thiago elects to stand. Mitchell still all smiles, even as a kick glances off his body. Thiago working his jab, The two clinch after a missed Mitchell overhand, and Thiago slams him to the floor and takes side control. One minute left, and Thiago briefly secures a crucifix. Mitchell sound in defense. Thiago stands to close, and the exchange briefly. Big cheers as the round closes, and MMAjunkie.com sees it for Thiago, 10-9.

Round 2

Early jabs from Mitchell met with a Thiago body kick. Thaigo slips on another kick, and it's Mitchell who moves into the bodylock. Thiago defends against the cage and ultimately reverses the course by bringing the fight to the floor and taking half-mount. A slick Mitchell nearly works to the back, but Thiago peels him off and moves up to the feet. Thiago catches a kick and lands a big overhand right that sees Mitchell topple. Thiago follows, but only for a moment before standing back on his feet. Mitchell still smiling, but Thiago brings him down again. Thiago unable to really capitalize early, but the work on the feet sees blood trickling down the nose of Mitchell. Again, nothing on the floor, so Thiago stands. Thiago loading up on overhand rights, and a few are sneaking through. Mitchell continues to issue a bloody smile as he moves forward, but he's having trouble landing anything of consequence. Thiago takes a quick look at the clock as the round closes, and MMAjunkie.com sees it again for Thiago, 10-9.

Round 3

Mitchell taunting on the outside. He wants Thiago to engage. He does, and the two trade shots that bring the electric crowd to a fever pitch. Thiago certainly looking to be tiring, but he does land a punch and move into the clinch. He brings the fight to the floor, where Mitchell latches onto a leg. Thiago feels it and backs away. Two minutes in. It's still Mitchell looking to move forward, but a tiring Thiago – now a little bloodied on the nose, as well – continues to back away and find spots for counters. The pace is slowing in the third, but the chants are keeping the building electric. Thiago does get a few crisp shots in against the cage, and a last-second transition to the back gets the building on their feet as he goes for the rear-naked choke. It won't come, but it secures the round. MMAjunkie.com sees the round for Thiago, 10-9, and gives him the fight, 30-27.

Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Miller

Round 1

Referee Herb Dean in the cage as we go live on Spike TV. Palhares takes the center as the crowd shouts his nickname. Miller circles on the outside and opens with a low kick. Both fighters showing respect to open as they look for possibilities. They clinch up against the cage briefly and hit the deck. Palhares is on bottom, and he quickly attacks the arm. Miller spins and pulls through and works smartly back to the feet. Palhares lands a powerful kick to the thigh. Another follows. Miller retreats to the center rather than follow to the cage. Halfway in. Palhares rocks Miller. He charges forward and dumps him on the floor. Somehow, Miller recovers and pushes forward, winding up in top position. Gutsy work by Miller, but Palhares did some damage with that series. Still, Miller stand up and returns to his feet. Palhares still firing off that overhand right. A knee from the clinch lands. A high kick rocks Miller. He hits the deck, and Palhares fires off some nine punches before walking away and leaping onto the cage. Only one problem: The fight's not over. A confused Miller rises, and Dean has to go peel Palhares off the cage. On the restart, Miller grabs an advantage, but the round ends before he can capitalize. What an odd sequence. MMAjunkie.com gives it to Palhares, 10-9.

Round 2

Palhares like a man possessed to open, and he drives in for the takedown. Miller being manhandled on the floor as Palhares assaults him against the cage. Miller grabs a leg and tries to bring the action down, but Palhares steps over to the back and keeps pounding away. Miller with incredible heart, but Palhares is on top and pounding away. Dean watching closely. Miller bloodied, and he tries to secure an arm. Palhares pulls free and continues to punch. He looks to be tiring from top. Adrenaline dump may have got the best of him. Miller surviving underneath, but Palhares in complete control. Palhares' punches have lost some zip, but he's still scoring. Miller thinks leg lock but quickly relents. Punches continue to come from top. Miller covers and rolls and moves, but he's got nothing to offer. Palhares' power has dropped, but he's mauling his opponent. Round ends, and MMAjunkie.com sees it 10-8 for Palhares.

Round 3

Palhares and Miller looked exhausted, and rightfully so. Miller's face is bruised and battered. Still, he fires off a few testing punches. Palhares has lost a lot of steam, but he's still firing the occasional massive blow. Unfortunately, they're missing. Miller starting to find his distance and connecting with straight lefts and rights. Two minutes in. Neither fighter has much in the tank. Palhares is cruising a little, and it's allowing Miller to score points. Miller really finding a home for his hands, but he can't do it with enough frequency to make a difference, as he'll likely need a finish. Every Palhares punch earns cheers from the crowd, and it may sway the judges a bit in this frame. Still, it hardly matters after what he did in the opening round. Both fighters missing with bombs. Round ends, and MMAjunkie.com leans toward Miller for landing the cleaner shots and moving forward, 10-9. Still, he'll come up short in the fight with Palhares taking it 29-27.

Spencer Fisher vs. Thiago Tavaeres

Round 1

Referee Marc Goddard calls the evening's final prelim. Fisher light early and he drops Tavares with a jab. Tavares right back on the feet and kicks to the ribs. More kicks before Tavares ducks down and drives Fisher into the cage. Tavares steps into half-mount and briefly grabs a guillotine. Not there, so he keeps pressing in with Fisher seated against the cage. Fisher tries to punch from his butt, but Tavares refuses to allow him any room to move. However, not much happening, and Goddard stands them. Tavares moves quickly back into the clinch position, bodylocking Fisher before dragging him to the floor. Fisher again sits up and tries to find room. Tavares advances to half-mount and then full mount. As Fisher turns, Tavares takes the back, looking for the choke. Not there, and Fisher stands. Tavares sticks to him until the round ends. MMAjunkie.com sees it for Tavares, 10-9.

Round 2

Tavares has a few strikes blocked to start, but he's immediately into a takedown, driving Fisher again to the floor.Fisher tries again to sit up, but Tavares advances over both legs and begins punching away. Fisher returns fire, but he's certainly not landing any serious blows. Tavares still looking to create room in tight quarters, and he sneaks his way onto the back. Fisher tries to buck and roll, but he's tapped and eating punches. Fisher tries to cover and defend, but Tavares has a firm base and is in control as he punches away. Goddard gives Fisher every chance to get out, but it's not going to happen. Fight over.
