Countdown to TNA Slammiversary

ENCORE PRESENTATION

Happy Slammiversary folks.

Yep, the little company that could is now well past it's toddling years and is well into the days of reading, writing and arithmetic.

Or so one would think.

Despite being around for nearly a decade, TNA still feels like a rudderless ship, changing directions with no rhyme or reason. Now, Dixie Carter is promising yet another surprise that will shake the foundation of TNA, as well as a surprise at the PPV tonight.

So what does this translate to? A lame duck Slammiversary.

Sigh.

On with the show.

GRUDGE MATCH

Brother Ray vs. Jesse Neal

I like the build here, but a solo Dudley has never worked. I'll take Neal with unintended interference from Devon.

GRUDGE MATCH

Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan

This is happening after just one show's build? Yeesh. I'll pick a screwy finish only because this feud needs more time.

GRUDGE MATCH

AJ Styles vs. Jay Lethal

Lethal's ascent has been fun to watch so far, especially since I had him pegged just a couple months back as being the next name to join the Pink Slip Brigade. I'm guessing a win here is possible, but once again, I think the New Horsemen will ensure that AJ gets the duke.

#10 CONTENDER MATCH

Kurt Angle vs. Kazarian

If TNA can commit to this angle being drawn out over 10 months, rather than hotshotting a couple of the matches on TV, then this could be a great run to watch. I fear that the trigger finger is getting itchy though. Take Angle here in a solid 10 minute bout.

GRUDGE MATCH

Jeff Hardy/Mr. Anderson vs. Beer Money

It's too early to turn the A-hole back to being heel. Hardy may have some forced time off so look at an injury angle to develop from here with the New Horsemen swarming. Beer Money wins.

MONSTER'S BALL MATCH

Abyss vs. Desmond Wolfe

There's no Patty Hearst here. I really could care less about Abyss at this point. The whole angle with Hogan has made Abyss look weak, not strong. Of course, Wolfe has been made to look even worse, so on those grounds alone it looks like "The Monster" is taking this match. How soon will it be before Wolfe and Bryan Danielson trade companies?

KNOCKOUTS TITLE MATCH

Roxxi vs. (C) Madison Rayne

Roxxi has certainly returned with momentum but you just can't help but feel that this is another short tenure for the one-time extreme Knockout. It seems inevitable, instead that Mickie James/Alexis Laree will come into TNA and take the belt from Rayne. Let's just hope that there isn't another Piggie James angle.

THEE CO-MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING...

X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH

(C) Douglas Williams vs. Brian Kendrick

I like that TNA is giving Kendrick a character to work with but the company hasn't fully committed to him being a face or a heel. Williams is just too strong in his role to lose the belt now and it really would take someone special to dethrone him. In theory that could be Samoa Joe, but that would be a step down for the big guy. Williams retains here, no questions asked.

THEE MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING...

TNA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

(C) RVD vs. Sting

I've been surprisingly intrigued by the build of Sting's heel persona here. I thought at first this was going to be lame but Borden has conjured up some Raven and made this confrontation with Van Dam a very psychologically stimulating matchup. The bout won't be much to speak of since Sting still appears to be injured, and it almost seems inevitable that Jarrett will run interference. Take Sting by DQ here.
